TP Solar, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power Renewable Energy, produced 1 GW of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells in Q2 FY27. Output for the first half of FY27 reached 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells. The modules are Domestic Content Requirement compliant and listed under the Government of India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.
TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Tata Power, through its subsidiary, has invested nearly ₹4,300 crore in the plant. Nearly 80 percent of the workforce comprises women. The facility uses TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies along with AI and ML-driven systems and Automated Guided Vehicles.
Market Research Outlook: Domestic cell and module capacity is expanding under ALMM and DCR policies that favour local content. Rising output from a large single-location plant strengthens supply for utility-scale and commercial projects. Sustained competitiveness will depend on yields, efficiency and cost relative to imports as policy support evolves. Plants that maintain high utilisation and remain on the approved list are positioned to capture a larger share of India’s module demand over the next 12 to 24 months.
