India HTLS Conductor Market Growing at CAGR 11.8% to Reach USD 842 Million by 2032

India's high temperature low sag (HTLS) conductor sector is gaining pace as transmission utilities turn to reconductoring of existing lines to carry more power without new corridors, supported by renewable energy growth, right-of-way constraints, and rising concern over line losses.

According to Market Research Outlook's latest research report, the "India HTLS Conductor Market" is expected to grow from USD 386 million in 2025 to USD 842 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 11.8%, supported by reconductoring of congested corridors, transmission investment under the National Electricity Plan, renewable energy evacuation needs, and a clear push to cut technical losses on the grid.

HTLS conductors in India are moving into a new phase of use. Demand is shifting from occasional emergency upgrades toward planned reconductoring programmes, greenfield lines in renewable zones, and urban corridors where land for new towers is not available.

What is changing is not just volume but the way utilities judge conductors. State transcos, POWERGRID, and private developers now look at ampacity per tower, lifetime losses, and speed of execution, rather than only the per-kilometre price of a conventional ACSR line.

This shift is reinforced by the National Electricity Plan (Transmission), which targets over INR 9.1 lakh crore of investment by 2031-32, CEA's revised right-of-way norms for HTLS conductors, and a sharp rise in renewable capacity that must reach load centres quickly. As a result, HTLS conductors are increasingly specified for particular corridors and voltage levels rather than treated as a niche product.

Growth in HTLS conductor demand is closely linked to reconductoring. APAR Industries has completed more than 236 HTLS reconductoring projects covering over 6,600 circuit km, including the Kalwa-Padgha 400 kV line in Mumbai, where capacity rose from 2,000 MW to 4,200 MW. CTC Global and its Indian partners, including Sterlite Electric, Gupta Power, and APAR, have completed over 200 ACCC installations across 22 states and two union territories.

At the same time, state utilities in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh are tendering HTLS reconductoring to relieve overloaded lines, while POWERGRID continues to award HTLS packages to contractors such as Laser Power & Infra. Line additions reached only 58% of target in FY25, which is pushing utilities to raise capacity on existing routes and creating steady demand for HTLS conductors across voltage levels.

Product development is focused on conductors that carry more current with less sag and lower losses. Composite core designs such as ACCC offer about 25% lower resistance than conventional conductors of the same diameter, invar and gap-type conductors suit long spans and older towers, and ACSS remains common in 220 kV upgrades. CTC Global opened its fifth ACCC core plant in Pune in 2025, supporting local supply and faster delivery for utilities.

Despite this momentum, the sector still faces challenges. HTLS conductors cost more upfront than ACSR, and many state tenders still award on lowest initial price. Installation needs trained crews, special fittings, and planned shutdowns that are hard to secure on busy lines. Composite cores and carbon fibre are partly imported, and aluminium prices remain volatile. However, total cost of ownership evaluation, revised CEA norms, and local core production are easing these pressures.

Looking ahead, opportunities are emerging in green energy corridors, greenfield renewable evacuation lines, urban load centres, data center clusters, and export projects in neighbouring grids. Closer work between conductor makers, core licensors, EPC contractors, and utilities is speeding up execution, positioning HTLS conductors in India for sustained, value-driven growth through 2032.

Reconductoring has become the fastest way for Indian utilities to add transmission capacity without new land. Conductor makers that combine proven HTLS designs, local core supply, and turnkey installation teams will pull ahead of firms that only supply wire. As renewable capacity grows and right-of-way approvals stay slow, demand will favour low-loss, high-ampacity conductors backed by strong execution, noted a senior analyst at Market Research Outlook.
