Grasim Industries, the Aditya Birla Group flagship, has started commercial production at its chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) resin plant in Vilayat, Gujarat. The company informed the stock exchanges on 11 August 2026.
The plant sits within Grasim’s chlor alkali complex and has a planned capacity of about 50,000 tonnes a year in its first phase. It was built in partnership with Lubrizol Advanced Materials India and was inaugurated on 16 June 2026 in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Lubrizol CEO Rebecca Liebert.
Grasim sees the plant as a major step in its downstream chlor alkali derivatives business. CPVC resin is used in plumbing, water management, fire safety and industrial piping.
Jayant V Dhobley, Business Head and CEO of Global Chemicals at Aditya Birla Group, said at the inauguration that the project combines Grasim’s manufacturing and execution strength with Lubrizol’s technology to give Indian customers reliable CPVC supply.
Market Research Outlook: A 50,000 tonne local plant adds a large new source of CPVC resin for Indian pipe makers. Grasim chose Vilayat for its captive chlorine, and the original plan was close to 100,000 tonnes built in phases, so phase 2 timing is the next thing to watch. Demand from housing, water supply schemes and fire safety should keep the CPVC market growing.
