Whirlpool Expands Single-Door Refrigerator Portfolio With ‘No Tension Refrigerators’ Featuring Automatic Defrost Technology

Whirlpool of India Limited has launched its new ‘No Tension Refrigerators’ range in the single-door category, introducing automatic defrosting technology aimed at reducing one of the most common pain points for refrigerator users — manual ice removal.

With the launch of the VitamagicPro and IMPRO PLUS ranges, Whirlpool is expanding its portfolio in the automatic defrost segment for single-door refrigerators. The company is positioning the range around convenience, particularly during periods of heavy summer usage when ice buildup becomes more frequent and manual defrosting disrupts everyday household routines.

The new refrigerators are powered by Whirlpool’s proprietary 6th Sense IntelliFrost Technology, which detects ice buildup and automatically initiates the defrosting process when required. The technology is designed to eliminate manual intervention while also helping prevent internal water spillage and improving accessibility to stored items.

Commenting on the launch, Nakul Tewari, Vice President – Marketing, Whirlpool of India, said: “Defrosting has long been one of the most frequent and frustrating challenges for single door refrigerator users, often disrupting everyday routines and requiring repeated manual intervention. With our new ‘No Tension Refrigerators’ powered by proprietary 6th Sense IntelliFrost Technology, we aim to eliminate this everyday hassle by enabling Automatic Defrosting without any manual effort. The range reflects our commitment to delivering meaningful innovations that simplify daily life and enhance convenience for Indian households.”

Focus on Convenience and Energy Efficiency

Alongside automatic defrosting, the Vitamagic and IMPRO PLUS ranges include multiple cooling modes designed for different usage needs. The FlexiCool feature allows consumers to choose between Low, Medium and High cooling settings, while Fast Forward Ice delivers ice in as little as 95 minutes. Eco Mode is designed to reduce energy consumption during lower usage periods such as vacations.

The refrigerators will be available in capacities ranging from 192L to 274L, with energy ratings between 2-star and 5-star.

Freshness Technologies Added Across the Range

Whirlpool has also incorporated food preservation technologies into the new portfolio. Both Vitamagic and IMPRO PLUS refrigerators come equipped with Microblock Technology, which helps prevent up to 99% bacterial growth.

The IMPRO PLUS range offers up to 15 days of garden freshness, while the Vitamagic range provides up to 12 days. The Vitamagic models also feature Whirlpool’s patented Zeolite Technology, designed to absorb excess ethylene gas released by fruits and vegetables, helping preserve freshness and maintain vitamins for longer durations.

The new refrigerator range will be available across retail stores and online platforms in India, with prices starting from INR 17,700.

Market Research Outlook Analysis

The launch signals growing demand for convenience-led appliances in India’s mass-premium home appliance segment, where consumers are increasingly prioritising automation and low-maintenance features. For competitors, the move raises pressure to differentiate in the single-door refrigerator category through technology and freshness-focused innovations rather than pricing alone.

Strategically, Whirlpool appears to be strengthening its position in the value-driven premium appliance segment by addressing everyday consumer pain points with proprietary technologies. The broader sector is moving toward smarter, energy-efficient and convenience-oriented appliances tailored for evolving urban lifestyles.
